Having brought punk to Manchester, been at the forefront of the DIY movement, and penned some of the most enduring pop punk records of the last thirty years, The Buzzcocks have been influential in every way it is possible for a band to be so.

Best known for the classic ‘Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve), Buzzcocks formed in 1976, at first noted for bringing The Sex Pistols to the North of England, they quickly established themselves as a, not only talented, but hugely important band in their own right.

Releasing their debut four track EP ‘Spiral Scratch’ on their own New Hormones label they became one of the first punk groups to establish an independent record label and lay the path for the whole movement.

Combining punk sensibilities and sounds with a knack for writing classic pop singles it was only a year until Pete Shelley and the band signed to United Artists and started recording the essential album Singles Going Steady.

Buzzcocks will be playing 53 Degrees on Sunday 14th February, tickets are on sale now.

But you have to remember that stereophonics have been round for a long long time and a lot of the fans will be life long fans and maybe abit out of the music loop. I went to a gig where the charlatans were headlining and Milburn were the support, the main reason I went was for Milburn but there was only a hand full of people who were singing along to Milburn and most of the people didn't know who they were. but you can expect that as the were there to see the charlatans not Milburn. Courteeners are fantastic but still massive names that everyone into music knows about. Im sure one day they will tho!!!

i was considering going to the sheffield carling academy for the NYE gig but i decided against it, knowing it will be full of 'over rated dehydrated goggle eyed girls' ..lol

i got the chance to see them in london a couple of times last fall and thought they were quality. i've gotten quite a few of my friends here into them as well.

i'm guessing it will be awhile before theres any us dates, as it probably is contingent on the album being released in america. considering how well the album is doing in the uk however, i'm sure it will be eventually.

I was just gonna say that The Courteeners are rubbish, but i'm more articulate now i'm a bit older so here goes. Basically i'm a manchester lad and i usually champion most music that comes out of my hood, but everything that's being said about The Courteeners is not true. It's all just hype and lazy journalism, IF you know anything about that. If you do then good, if you don't then maybe you should read more (tony wilson RIP). Anyway read these here things:

1. They are nothing like Oasis and will NEVER be as good or as big as them. The only similarity between the two is that the lead singers have the same name and both have silly haircuts.

2. They don't sound like The Smiths, they don't have Johnny Marr's inimitable guitar playing for a start, although most Courteener fans won't have a clue what i'm talking about as they're too young to know about The Smiths. Also Liam just wants to be Morrissey, and become a poet by just "writing songs about words in the dictionary" - his words not mine kids, just read their NME interview if you don't believe me. That just shows how stupid and thieving he is if he has to use a dictionary to write lyrics.

3. He also wants to be Pete Docherty, and incidentally, the only band that they DO sound like is the Libertines, or at least a cheap copy. This is the one and only reason that they're getting any attention because the public have been crying out for another libertines since they split, apart from me that is. And believe me, they'll last just about as long if they're lucky.

4. Sadly that's it, as i can't talk about The Courteeners anymore without feeling sick, but i think i've given you the idea already. And yes, The Courteeners ARE indeed rubbish, rubbish, rubbish, rubbish, rubbish, rubbish..........
